The Besnard Lakes tour with Band of Horses, Land of Talk, more

Ordinarily, I’d be skeptical about any artist’s claim to be “the best live band in the world.” But in the case of the Besnard Lakes, they’re not kidding. Let’s put it this way: Last time I saw them at one of my favorite venues (TT the Bear’s), their set stretched way past curfew, the band was doing shots on stage, the amps were on the verge of blowing out my eardrums, and oh yeah, their smoke machine set off the fire alarm… yet no one could hear it (or cared). Did I mention it was also my birthday?

Anyway, it doesn’t have to be your birthday for you to celebrate some cinematic, soaring, beautifully noisy rock and roll madness with the Montreal-based band. You can catch them at the following fall tour dates:

To further convince you, check out the Besnard Lakes’ “Albatross” (maybe one of the best songs of the year) available on MP3 here.

Or watch the below live performance of “Light Up the Night,” shot a couple of nights before I saw them at TT’s:

  1. […] Another stellar album of cinematic shoegaze from the Montreal band, featuring flawless male/female vocals and melodies that will break your heart. Spies skulking in the ruins of crumbling cities never sounded so good. Plus, they are awesome live. […]
