Of the 2,000 (!) bands playing at South by Southwest this year, Low is one of the few artists on my can’t-miss list. I’ve been a huge fan of theirs ever since the minimalist, devastating beauty of The Curtain Hits the Cast first wrung itself from my speakers back in my college days in Colorado. Though I’ve seen them live many times since then–and though their sound has since transformed into something both warmer and more conventional–Low always delivers. Part family squabble, part religious experience, and part rawk n roll show, Low are something unique, and that’s why they continue to endure in an industry that’s itself almost completely transformed.
If you’ll be at SXSW, Low are playing with Memoryhouse and Vetiver at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary on March 17, in support of their new album, C’mon, which comes out in April on Sub Pop. Download the first song, “Try to Sleep,” on MP3 below.
